Kuringgai Kangaroo's Basketball Club

Ku-Ring-Gai Kangaroos Basketball Club – Terms and Conditions (T&C) of Membership

Ku-Ring-Gai Kangaroos Basketball Club (KKBC) is a not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to provide opportunities for its members to participate in basketball activities.

The club‘s focus is to develop players’ basketball skills through training and game participation.

These T&C apply to all members of KKBC.  For the purpose of these T&C, a “Member” shall be defined as:

  • A player

  • The parent/s or legal guardian/s of a player

  • Any team official (coach or team manager) who is not otherwise a parent

  • An elected member

For clarity, ‘member’ as defined by these T&C is not the same as the term ‘member’ as defined by the KKBC constitution.

Community Sport

KKBC is a community sports club.  By registering with KKBC, members understand that:

  • The club is run entirely by volunteers

  • The club relies on members to volunteer as coaches, managers, committee members and for other roles which are needed for the club to function

  • The priority of the club is for players to participate and enjoy basketball.

Obligations of KKBC

When you register as a player KKBC will undertake to:

  • Place you in a team with players of a similar age and skill level.

  • Enter your team in a competition run by Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Basketball Association (HKBA), Northern Suburbs Basketball Association (NSBA), Inner West Bulls Basketball Association (IWBBA), or similar competition.

  • Provide a half court at a local gymnasium for your team to train.

While KKBC will make every endeavour to meet its obligations above this is not always within the club’s power.

When KKBC is unable to meet its obligations in these areas the club accepts no liability but will work with members to find a suitable outcome.  Alternative arrangements are at the sole discretion of KKBC.

Obligations of Member

When you register as a member you agree to:

  • Pay your fees by the due date or agree a payment plan with KKBC

  • Abide by all KKBC’s policies, rules, and guidelines. Show commitment to your team.  Once accepting a place on a KKBC team playing members will attend all games and trainings when possible.  Absence should be notified to your coach or manager.

  • Wear KKBC playing uniform when participating in games. KKBC uniform includes club singlet and shorts

  • Register with BNSW prior to participating in any games or trainings

  • Show respect at all times to team mates, Club officials, opposition teams and officials, referees and all other personnel encountered while participating in KKBC basketball activities.

Registration and Fees

All players and volunteers are required to complete the Club’s registration process prior to the commencement of each season or on requesting to join the club if later.

The club will not place a member in a team until the player has registered on the KKBC website.

By registering with KKBC members confirm that the information that they have provided on their registration is accurate and complete.  For members under the age of 18 the primary contact information must be a parent or guardian.

On registration or on placement in a team an invoice will be raised for full season fees.

Full fees are payable on registration or on receipt of an invoice.

The fees charged by KKBC will cover:

  • The cost of registering your team with HKBA

  • The game fees for the entire competition.

  • Court costs for training.

If the club incurs additional fees as the direct result of the actions of members these additional fees will be charged to the member.

KKBC fees do not cover the cost of a coach.  It is expected that team parents or other family members will volunteer to coach teams.

As the club’s purpose is player development KKBC do not offer a ‘game only’ membership option.

The club does offer a ‘training only’ membership.

Competitions and training facilities are not run by KKBC.  KKBC accepts no liability or responsibility for actions or lack thereof by organisations other than KKBC.

Players will not be permitted to join a team for games or training unless full fees have been paid.

By registering with KKBC a player is committing to paying the full fees invoiced.

Players are liable for full fees even if they do not attend all games or trainings.

A reduced fee may be offered if a new player joins a team part way through the competition.  The decision to allow reduced fees and the amount of the reduction will be at the discretion of KKBC.

If a player has to leave a team part way through a season for any reason they will remain liable for the full fees.

If a player is injured to the extent that they will miss 4 or more consecutive weeks of games and trainings the club may refund fees for the period of injury.  The club may require a medical certificate. Each case will be considered on merit.

To be eligible for a refund the member must inform their Age Manager that they have sustained a potential long-term injury and the expected length of absence within 14 days of first missing a game or training due to this injury.  If notice is not received within this timeframe, the injury period will be deemed to have begun 14 days prior to when notice is received.  If a refund is given this will be calculated and processed when the player returns to games and trainings or when the player is asked to leave the team

If the player is injured or ill for a prolonged period the club reserves the right to ask the player to give up their place on the team to allow a waitlisted player to participate.  In these circumstances a refund for fees from when the injured player is asked to leave the team will be paid.

If the player voluntarily gives up their place on the team and an alternative player can be found to take their place the club may offer a refund which will be limited to the amount charged to the replacement player.

The decision to offer a refund in any circumstances remains at the discretion of KKBC and is not guaranteed.

KKBC understands that it is not always possible to pay full fees at the start of the season.  The club is willing to discuss payment plans with members and players will be permitted to participate in games and training prior to full fees being paid provided that:

  • The member (or parent/guardian) has agreed a payment plan with KKBC

  • The payment plan is being adhered to.

Payment plans will be offered at the sole discretion of KKBC.  If payment dates for the agreed plan are not adhered to the plan will be void and any outstanding fees will become due immediately and must be paid before a member participates in further games or trainings.

KKBC reserves the right to suspend a player until full fees are paid.

If fees remain unpaid even after the player has been suspended KKBC reserves the right to remove the player from the team permanently and offer their place to a waitlisted player.  In these circumstances full season fees will still be payable.

Registration with KKBC is a commitment to play.  This means that, once registered and placed in a team, members are liable for their fees for the entire season even if they wish to leave the club part way through the competition.

Registration with BNSW and HKBA or other Association running competitions

Membership of BNSW is a requirement to participate in the competition and this membership provides insurance for players during games and training.

No KKBC member may take the court either in a game or a training session without obtaining BNSW membership first.   In the event of injury players should contact BNSW to access insurance cover.

By participating in games and/or training sessions with KKBC, players are confirming that they have registered with BNSW.

Risks

Basketball is a contact sport and participation in games and training comes with risk of injury.  Participation is at the members’ risk and KKBC do not accept any liability for injury.

Code of Conduct

All members of KKBC must abide by the club’s code of conduct. All members will act with integrity and will not behave in any way that will bring the club into disrepute.

KKBC seeks to provide a safe, fair and inclusive environment for all members. To achieve this, we require certain standards of behaviour of players, coaches, officials, administrators, parents/guardians (of child participants) and spectators. Our codes of behaviour are underpinned by the following core values:

  • To act within the rules and spirit of our sport

  • To display respect and courtesy towards everyone involved in our sport and prevent discrimination and harassment.

  • To prioritise the safety and well-being of children and young people involved in our sport.

  • To encourage and support opportunities for participation in all aspects of our sport.

KKBC fully support all Basketball NSW’s guidelines, policies, procedures, as found on the Basketball NSW website.

All KKBC members must act in accordance of the Bylaws for their competition's relevant association.

KKBC is run entirely by volunteers.  Without their efforts our club would not exist.  We expect all members of KKBC to value and respect our coaches, managers, committee members and administrators at all times.  KKBC has a zero tolerance approach to abuse of our volunteers.  If members behave inappropriately towards our volunteers their membership will be revoked and they will not be allowed to join the club again.  Where appropriate this exclusion may extend to family members if this is felt necessary to protect the wellbeing of our volunteers.  Any fees paid will be forfeited.

Any member found to be in breach of the club’s code of conduct may be excluded from the club.  In such circumstances the member will forfeit all fees paid and will be excluded from joining the club in the future

Coaches and Managers

It is the role of KKBC Age Managers to create teams.

Coaches and Team Managers are required to accept team members as advised by the Age Manager

Coaches and Team Managers must accept any new player placed in the team.

The number of players in a team is decided at the discretion of the club.

Every team needs a Coach and Manager and it is expected that the parent group for each team will fill these roles.

KKBC management will offer help to novice coaches and managers where practical.  This may take the form of training literature, in person help at training sessions or outside training opportunities.

Occasionally teams decide that they wish to engage outside help to coach the team.  KKBC allows this but any such arrangement must be agreed by the entire team and managed and funded by that team.   It is the team’s responsibility to ensure that any outside help employed by them holds valid Working with Children Checks and the relevant insurance.  KKBC accepts no liability, financial or otherwise, in respect of coaches employed independently from the club.

All coaches and managers must have a valid WWCC and be registered with BNSW as a volunteer.  The BNSW registration covers insurance.  There is a small cost to register with BNSW.

There is no cost to register with KKBC as a volunteer.

Team officials of KKBC are representatives of the club and must act in accordance with KKBC rules and values of Respect, Good Sportsmanship and Enjoyment at all times. KKBC expects all coaches and manager to:

  • act with integrity and not behave in any way that will bring KKBC or their own reputation into disrepute

  • value each player equally and recognise that community basketball is about participation and enjoyment

  • model good behaviour and sportsmanship to the team.

  • show respect to referees and other officials

  • show respect to opposition coaches and players

Complaints

Concerns or complaints regarding team or player issues should, if possible, first be addressed to the coach and/or team manager.

If the matter cannot be resolved within the team or you do not feel comfortable raising the matter with a team representative, refer the matter to the relevant Age Manager who will act in accordance with our complaints process.  A list of Age Mangers for each grade can be found on our website.

Training

KKBC is committed to the development of players.  Membership includes games and training.  The club does not offer a ‘games only’ membership.

If a player does not attend training for any reason there will be no refund or discounting of fees.

Each team is offered a one hour half court booking each week for training.    It is the responsibility of the team coach and manager to arrange a time that suits their team with KKBC admin.  As court space in the area is limited it is not always possible to accommodate a team’s first choice of venue and/or timing.

Occasionally our training venues are unavailable for reasons beyond our control.  On these occasions the club will do it’s best to find an alternative venue if requested

Communication

From time to time the Club will communicate with members via email and other
electronic means. Members must provide the Club with a valid email address for
communication and notify any change of email address within 7 days.

All communication between the Club and its members, between team representatives and members, and member-to- member, in whatever form, must be Club-related, appropriate and not offend, intimidate, humiliate or bully another person, or bring the Club into disrepute.
