About
Introduction
Founded in early 2016 with one team of 7 boys, we have grown to over 80 teams in just a few years! Teams start from year 1 to open men and women
- Games in the Hornsby Kuringgai Basketball Association (HKBA Spiders) are played at the Brickpit Stadium in Thornleigh and at surrounding schools such as Barker, Abbotsleigh, Knox, and St Leo's.
- Games in Norths Basketball Association are played at Northern Suburbs indoor sports centre and nearby schools
- Games in the Inner West Basketball Association are played at Ryde Stadium and nearby schools.
Initially, the club was started as a way for a small group of children at Pymble Public School and their friends to play basketball. We found the lack of existing clubs a frustrating barrier for kids to start playing and so set about to change that and create a club much as you would find in other sports.
Our Aim
At Kuringgai Kangaroos Basketball Club our aim is provide a pathway for the children of Sydney's Upper North Shore to participate in playing basketball at all levels. We are committed to creating a positive environment where players can have fun, develop skills and enjoy playing with friends. We are all about participation!
We will support Coaches, Managers, and all other volunteers who assist each team.
Why join a Club?
-
Many schools in Kuringgai (both public and private) do not have a basketball program at all or it only exists for only a small part of the year.
-
A club enables the collective pooling of resources to organise group training and coaching to develop both players and coaches.
-
Having a pathway for progression and large enough group of players to enable younger kids to progress through age groups, grades, and skill levels
Parent involvement
Importantly, like any other community endeavor, we need parents to volunteer and get involved! So please, get involved! Put up your hand to Coach or Manage a team, be part of the Committee of Management, or participate in any way that you can.
Any help at all is appreciated! The more that do so, the more successful that our club will be and the better experience that your children will have!
Season
There are 2 seasons every year, the first being terms 1 & 2 (Feb to June Semester) the second season in terms 3 & 4 (July through to December Semester) with a 2 week break for school holidays. There are about 16 regular season games and 2 finals. All teams get to play in finals.

Code Of Conduct
Players and parents are asked to respect all match officials and participate in a positive way, abiding by the rules of the Association within which our team is participating. Coaches, Managers, Players and Parents are reminded that there is zero tolerance of talking back to match officials and referees. We ask that you positively encourage good play with no disparaging remarks to opposition players.
Membership and Financial details
Membership is in two sections as BNSW annual registration and KKBC registration fees are required to be paid separately.
1) BNSW Registration - paid annually:
This is paid through the Hornsby Kuringgai Basketball Association website and is separate to the KKBC registration. It is the responsbility of the player/parent to ensure that their registration remains current while an active memeber of KKBC. If you play at more than one association you are required to register at each association.
2) KKBC Registration Fees - paid per season:
Are due and payable when registering. As a not-for-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers it is important that season fees are paid in a timely manner to allow us to meet our financial obligations. Full season fees are due and payable regardless of the number of games and trainings attended.
Your KKBC season membership includes:
- Your team registration
- All weekly game fees for a season
- Training venue hire for a season
We aim to have 7-8 players per team. Some teams may have more.
